It used to be "Oh, everyone is just watching on the RT site!" and now it's"The algorithm is hurting our viewership!". Anything to avoid reflecting on the fact that it's the quality of your content that has people leaving in droves. I can't wait to see the cope mechanism when RT finally tanks for good.

Early views, viewer drop-off, how much of the video is watched all the way through, clickthrough when the video is recommended to people, filename, tags, how previous videos performed in those things; all these criteria affect how the algorithm treats videos.

At this point the various RT channels are sufficiently deep into the YouTube channel death spiral that becoming a zombie channel is almost inevitable and unrecoverable.

It's also worth noting that when RT's channels were at their peak YouTube videos were a rolling stone gathering moss. If they got a lot of early views, then they got on trending, if they got on trending the views snowballed, this would lead to more subscribers, more early views, etc. They never adapted as YouTube changed the way it pushed content.

Was a few years ago now I fell off their content, but from memory they never did anything as basic as getting people to enable notifications which functionally replaced subscriptions.

The death of Roster Teeth isn't unique, they've fell into the same trap so many gaming and online entertainment outlets.

Here's the truth, Roster Teeth grew too quickly by spending (wasting) someone else's money on a business that never had a future or on vanity projects that failed. On demand video streaming services will be remembered as a business fad and while something like Amazon Prime Video is probably here to stay, Roster Teeth isn't.

The content is trash, partly because the people behind it have zero talent but also because there is no accountability. When every manager is a nepotism hire and the on screen talent is worshipped like gods by the staff then it's no wonder why these expensive vanity projects get green lit only to fail.

Yeah those tiktok veiws are really paying off, just look at the huge uptick in people consuming RT properties!

Also super weird to try and pass off the pandemic as to why channels took a nosedive, you have people stuck up home consuming more media than ever, if you can't capitalise on that because you have shitty tech support and editors then that's a you problem. The algorithm fucks a lot of people but when you have a channel with 9mil subs and barely 50k veiws then it's not an algorithm problem, it's a problem with the content. Trying to peddle RT to zoomers is pathetic, it's mid-thirties hipsters trying to be hip and with it and missing the mark time and time again, I'm not saying change is bad but the corporate trend chasing has burned any creative flare out of the company and it shows, none of their channels seems to want to do anything but the bare minimum to get a few podcast listens or YT clicks.

Tik Tok views don't mean shit for your yt audience. People consuming these mini videos on TIk Tik will almost never convert into watching 30+ minute videos on your main channel. Tik Tok is great for exposure if you're a smaller channel since I don't think their algo is refined at all so your shit can just explode randomly and pull in some interest at least.

And change isn't a bad thing but when you change from being a personality driven content production service to making abject crap almost nobody enjoys is the problem. Fact of the matter is, none of the new people are 1/10th as funny or interesting as older gen people.

On a fresh account with zero interactivity, searching for the term "Let's play" has them be the first 4 results. If you refine to "Let's play minecraft", they are the first 2 results, but also littered throughout the results. So, AH should be perfectly unaffected.

As for RT themselves, I can see how they'd be fucked by the algorithm. Without searching for the explicitly, I'm not sure how they'd show up without straight up being recommended.

As someone who interviewed with them, at the very least, the benefits they're talking about are 100% true. RT very specifically calls their PTO policy "take what you need" and back when I interviewed (pre covid), they also talked a lot about the free catered lunch thing. Dunno if this input is worth anything but those parts are 100% accurate and not common knowledge in the fandom.

Seasons 6-8 were okay, but I never enjoyed them quite as much as the original series. Seasons 9 and 10 were where I began to lose interest, and when the premiere of a new season (I forget which one, 11 maybe?) started off with like five minutes of uninterrupted "take us seriously, we are a serious show" CGI instead of the machinima hijinks I always enjoyed, I bailed. I could watch those first five seasons and still get some good laughs out of them, but everything that came after I have little to no desire to ever see again.

It's a lot like The Simpsons, now that I think about it. A rough but promising start while they worked out the kinks, a golden age of pretty much nothing but hits, a slow decline as the show aged and cast and crew were replaced, and then a long stretch of zombified content that shares the show's name but little else.

I consistently liked RvB all the way through Season 10. I think that the way in which they expanded out the world gradually was pretty well done and I think that they chose exactly the right time for the Bloodgulch Chronicles to wrap up since by the time they were ready to move out of the Gulch they'd basically beaten the Gulch to death and done everything they could within the confines of the box canyon. I liked the Freelancer program stuff since it allowed for some really nice contrast between our Sim Trooper cast and the actual professionals which made for some really good situational comedy as this total Goofus team kept getting one over on the Gallant, I also think that Season 10 was a perfect ending point for the series.

I honestly think that RvB didn't start to go downhill until Season 11/whatever that prequel series they let Monty jizz all over was since that was when the focus of the show shifted away from the misfit reds and blues as characters and the tone as a comedy. Even during the "darker" moments of Seasons 6-10 they never fully lost that comedic focus and they were still a machinima rather than a cgi show.
