Every year around the Fourth of July, the number of firework related injuries spike, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

There were nine reported deaths and an estimated 11,500 in relation to fireworks injuries in the U.S. last year.

There were about 15,600 more firework injuries reported the year prior, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CPSC said the high number could have been due to firework shows being cancelled amid concerns about group gatherings.

Of the nine deaths in 2021, six were due to firework misuse and another to a mortar launch malfunction. Two others are unknown.

Adults between the ages 20 to 24 were reported to have the highest rate of firework related injuries in 2021. The most reported bodily injuries were hands and fingers - other injuries are commonly burns.

We used to (still do) have strict fireworks rules even for the pyromaniacs in the family. Once the fuse was lit, “fire in the hole” (actually said) and we stood back.

Usually fireworks injuries involve blindness or missing fingers, how do you break your skull?
These things will blow a hand off entirely if you're holding it to throw. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the same force can split your head open if it detonates against you or you're right above the mortar when the launch charge goes off.

You can tell the mom is scum because she immediately jumps on Facebook to blame fireworks instead of killing herself for being an unfit parent

That quote is all you really need to know about her character. Nigga we know that fireworks are dangerous, that's why we don't let kids handle them without supervision and we don't let them touch possible duds. IDK why she is trying to give us a life lesson when she is the only person in the country that apparently didn't know that kids and high-powered explosives don't mix was her.

I think for an adult it only takes like 15lbs of force to break any bone in your skull. Launching a firework a few hundred feet into the air takes a lot more force than 15lbs, kid never stood a chance.

given that one of mommy's first impulses was to get on fucking facebook and address her audience one wonders if this is simple natural selection at work

alternate post: people really read articles like this and still talk like abortion is illegal now smdh nobody has any critical thinking skills anymore

Yeesh, the only harm I ever had was getting a blister on the tip of my finger when trying to light one of those tablets that made a carbon snake as it burned. And that was because I lit 4 matches at once trying to create enough heat for the stupid thing to light.

Judging by the wording of her social media posts about it, I'm sure this always-online Karen will immediately start telling everyone to "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" in her new crusade to ban fireworks.

You killed your son with your negligence, retard. Sterilize yourself.

They just need to ban her from breeding.

I'd bet money that he stuck his head over a mortar and took it full force to the face. probably either tried to light the fuse from inside the tube, or lit it, waited, and thought "whats taking so long" so he went over to look inside and boom. Last year a friend of a friend did something similar which resulted in total blindness in one eye and partial in the other.

The closest I ever got to calamity was when at about 13 I took the red plastic nose cone off a fairly sizable rocket firework. Dunno why. I never got it to seat right, so I left it on crooked. Figured it wouldn't matter. Instead of going straight up it climbed like 30ft and then started pulling these incredibly tight loops, spiralling all over out of control. Thankfully it exploded (15ft off the ground) before it got too close to the house. Best firework I've ever lit, tbh. But it could have been the adrenaline.

Sparkletor 2.0: pretending the m80 is a cigar
As a kid me and my dad was shooting fireworks in late april, it's traditional here. The ground was wet as fuck because the snow had melted and we had one of those big cake fireworks that fired different things for a couple of minutes. You know the type, a bit larger than a dinner plate and almost as tall as a tin can.

With the ground being mud and water we decided to put it on a handyman table. That was a mistake. When it fired off the first shots the table acted like a trampoline and shot the whole thing up in the air, it then fell face first into the mud. After a couple of seconds of silence the whole thing went off at once. The only one that wasn't close to shitting themselves when that happened was the dog who tried to attack the danger instead.
An 11 yo should NEVER NEVER NEVER be allowed to light off his own fireworks. PERIOD! At that age they have zero idea of what a firework can do if it is handled improperly. In Califagnia legal fireworks are called "safe and sane" which like so much here is a fucking cruel joke since they can still fuck you up if mishandled. And then you get into the shit that everybody seems to want like cherry bombs and M80's and bottle rockets. Fireworks can fucking kill you. If you are too young to realize that (and every 11 yo is) you should NOT be allowed to light them off. I'm sorry this woman had to learn the hard way.
When we messed around with firecrackers and bottle rocks as kids(younger than 11) there would be a constant stream of unknown adults showing up to show us how they had half or a whole finger missing and tell us to be very careful. They most likely lost it at work but it was a nice community service.

Am I the only person who is weirded out that the picture of the kid has him holding what looks like some kind of fucking monkey? What is that creature? Where the fuck did this kid get an exotic animal? No way in fucking hell that it's a dog.
It's probably a slow loris which is a type of primate. Actually, nevermind, it's a kinkajou.

Looks like it was taken at one of those wildlife petting zoo places. Still I also wondered, was this really the best pic they had to hand out to the media, he is making a weird face and the monkey thing raises distracting questions.

My granddad's cousin was Florida Man type insane and had a cop friend who would give him all the illegal fireworks their small town bureau seized each year. Even he knew not to pick up the "duds." Too bad he couldn't hysterically screech that at this kid like he did to all the kids in my extended family.

What do you guys think happened? My personal theory is he lit a mortar that took longer than he'd expect to cook off so he looked down the tube.
I actually had that call years ago. Idiots had gotten a commercial grade Fireworks show mortar. Idiot teenager leaned over it and took it full in the chest. That one still shows up in my nightmares from time to time. Anything to do with kids sucks.

As for this one? Either he had some really heavy artillery that he got his head in front of, or he was holding M80's against his skull. I'm not sure how most common fireworks could actually fracture or penetrate a skull? That's generally the hardest bone in your body. Was he shooting rockets up his nose?

Of course as much as we don't want to be overly critical of the dearly departed and his unquestionably trailer trash Mom, but the string of warning signs just in this article alone are amazing. His name is "Camrynn". How to tell the world your Mom's a stripper without telling the world your mom's a stripper? And the picture. What is the animal he is holding? That does not look like something you want your kids to be holding. And the casual "he was out back playing with fireworks when this just happened" Uh huh!
