Culture Richard Spencer Listed Himself on Bumble as Politically 'Moderate' - The white supremacist told Jezebel in a text exchange that he no longer identifies as a "white nationalist" and asked that we respect his privacy.

I wasn’t expecting to have a borderline-introspective conversation with white supremacist leader Richard Spencer on Tuesday night. But a Jezebel reader spotted him on the dating app Bumble in the Dallas, Texas, area and sent me a few screenshots of his profile. So I found the guy’s number and reached out for comment: Is this really you? Are you really politically “moderate” and “vaccinated?” I needed to know.

Here are the screenshots I received in a tip:

I checked all the vitals: Photos, yes. Age, yes. Height, yes. Astrological sign, yes. Kids, yes. This really appears to be Richard Spencer, the guy who shouted “Hail, Trump!” in 2016, led the 2017 neo-Nazi march through Charlottesville in which white men chanted “Jews will not replace us,” and became the most prominent figure in the American white nationalist movement.

Upon viewing this profile, I thought, maybe this is a catfish? So I obtained Spencer’s phone number from a fellow reporter and asked him myself if this was indeed his Bumble profile. “Yes, that is I,” he responded.

“I’d appreciate your respecting my privacy. This is obviously not newsworthy. I’m simply living my life,” he texted me.

Okay, that would be a fair point if the dater in question were not a literal white supremacist leader accused of physically abusing his ex-wife, and masquerading as a random “moderate” skier who’s into electronic music on Bumble. So I said as much to him—that I thought he was being “deceptive”—and here’s what he responded:

Spencer went on to tell me that “life experience” and “intellectual rethinking” have caused him to reconsider the white nationalist views that he “embraced earlier in life.” To reiterate, this man coined the term “alt-right.” The Southern Poverty Law Center calls him “a kind of professional racist in khakis.” He was also notably punched in the face while wearing a Pepe the Frog pin in 2017.

“If you’re on a path that leads nowhere, you have to rethink things,” he told me.

When I told Spencer that I planned on publishing this conversation, because I believe it to be very valuable to the public, especially anyone around Dallas who might stumble upon this particular dating profile, he stopped responding.

The moral of the story is: Be wary of the “moderates” on Bumble. You really just never know.

If only Jezebel writers would be this skeptical about "women" as well.

The real moral of the story is that people who've already made words meaningless shouldn't complain about others engaging in the same.
 
Richard's going to need to learn how to parley these interrogatories into dates if he wants any hope of success. Women loathing your political beliefs is a lot closer to loving them than them simply not caring. The only thing more enjoyable than them attempting to fuck you into a different opinion is the hate-fucking afterward when they realized you have not moved at all.

I mean yes when it comes to Richard Spencer I'd agree with the author in doubting he's genuine. But maybe he had an epiphany?

He did spread hatred, but that's simply not against the law, neither is being a racist for that matter. If any of that was then Louis Farrakhan should be in prison but instead he's an insanely wealthy man who continues preaching hate.

Richard Spencer doesn't owe you an apology. If the man wants to now live a quiet life and be an ordinary member of society then he's entitled to have it.
 
That’s great he was able to broaden his views, but he’s still forever tainted.

Should be able to live his life privately though if he’s no longer putting himself in the public eye.

Yes. The religion of the Leftoid, while having many trappings of traditional religions, such as cardinals (Verified Twitter Users), original sin (white privilege), saints (George Floyd), etc...it does not have any concept for redemption. Once cancelled, you are forever damned.

As far as Spencer goes, I dunno. I don't really have a good enough feel about him to know whether the whole neo-Nazi thing was genuine or just a really dumb grift. I never really paid attention to him because he was pretty embarrassing.
If he genuinely thought he was doing the right thing, I could believe he was capable of enough introspection to change his worldview. People are capable of change...but it requires a lot of discipline.

If you've paid any attention to the hard right in this country, you'd know there has been a big rolling fallout between Spencer and pretty much everyone else. Going on for years and years now. Dude is definitely not what most would consider a "right winger" anymore. He's gone down a kind of esoteric path, including attractions I personally agree with like conservatives are just one half of the corn syrup vs Soy dichotomy, Christianity is big time gay, and way too many in the IRL alt-right are just dumbfuck losers with shit social skills.

But just like every other journalist piece of trash, this person is permanently stuck in 2017. Spencer was definitely a psychopath back then, I actually know people that ran into him. But people change.

Except journos. They never change.
 
I'd like to say this article is uniquely repulsive but tracking down some guy you hate on a dating app just to harass him with a bunch of stupid questions and then gossip to everyone about it is terribly on-brand for Jezebel, the news site for ex-girlfriends
 
In the entire history of that period rag, this is probably the closest that Jezebel has ever come to investigative journalism. How sad.

I didn't even know they were still around, I thought they got peeled off during one of Gawker's many financial crashes.

Richard Spencer is not really a white supremacist. Richard Spencer is a Neo-Nazi. There's a small difference, but there is a difference. Basically, Spence believes in the ideals of Nazi Germany, which favored gun control, abortion, atheism, and that rights are really privileges allowed by the all-powerful State. He likes the idea of planned economies and wanted to eliminate freedom of speech for those not on his side. The propaganda painting Trump as "literally Hitler" worked not just on their own side, but on retards like Richard Spencer. Him and his small force of Neo-Nazi retards (oh, how redundant!) got big mad when Trump sent a pallet of money and a boatload of guns to Israel and even big madder when Trump refused to seize more power than what his office allowed to destroy the opposition (it's why right wingers don't like Ann Coulter anymore, she went crazy when Trump didn't do unconstitutional bullshit she wanted him to do).

Anyway, the difference between a Nazi and a White Nationalist is simply this: Nazis want to give the government more power and a White Nationalist doesn't necessarily want that. In other words, Richard Spencer didn't really change or leave any of his beliefs. He's simply looking for a group that better aligns with his personal beliefs. Now, think real hard about this question I posit to you: which group in American politics supports gun control, expanded government powers, abortion, and atheism?
