US House Votes To Raise Minimum Age To Buy Semi-Automatic Rifles To 21 - Imagine being an 18-year-old E-1 in the army, shipped off to whatever war, but now handling an M16 is verboten.

WASHINGTON — The House voted Wednesday to raise the minimum age to buy semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21, as part of a package of gun bills in response to a horrific spate of mass shootings across the country.

The vote was 228-199, mostly along party lines, with nearly all Democrats voting “yes” and all but a small group of Republicans voting “no.”

The age provision is part of the Protecting Our Kids Act [A], legislation written by Democrats and slated for a final House vote Wednesday night. Party leaders broke the package up into individual votes for specific proposals to pressure Republican lawmakers who are resistant to toughening gun laws.

“Why? Why would someone be against raising the age so that teenagers do not have AK-47s?” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday at an event with advocates seeking to reduce gun violence. “Yes, they say mental health issues. Yes, we want to address mental health issues. Other countries have mental health issues. They don’t have a gun violence epidemic.”

Ahead of the vote, House Republican leaders sent an email to GOP offices pressuring them to vote “no” on the bill, derisively labeling it the “Unconstitutional Gun Restrictions Act.”

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., said Congress should try to address the root cause of the problem and not impose gun restrictions, arguing that lawmakers did not ban airplanes after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“Airplanes were used that day as the weapon to kill thousands of people and to inflict terror on our country. There wasn’t a conversation about banning airplanes,” Scalise told reporters.

The Protecting Our Kids Act includes a ban on large-capacity ammunition feeding devices and tougher penalties for gun trafficking and straw purchases. It also would establish residential gun storage rules, with criminal penalties for violations. Additionally, the bill would require registration for bump stock-type devices and modify the definition of a "ghost gun" that is subject to regulation.

Republicans are facing some pressure to back tougher laws after recent shootings — including the massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas — have shocked the nation. A recent CBS News poll [A] found that U.S. adults prefer stricter gun laws over less strict measures by a 5-to-1 margin.

In the poll, 77 percent of respondents said the minimum age to buy semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 should be 21, if not older.

"The slaughter of children is not a partisan issue," House Majority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told reporters.

' Age hike unlikely to survive in Senate. '

The legislative package being considered by the House is all but guaranteed to fail in the 50-50 Senate, where Republicans have effective veto power on gun legislation due to the filibuster. Separate negotiations are taking place on a slimmer bill that is unlikely to include raising the rifle purchasing age.

The chief Republican negotiator, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, is resistant to increasing the age minimum as he seeks a deal that can win about half the 50-member GOP caucus.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who is part of the negotiating group, said raising the minimum age to purchase semi-automatic weapons wasn’t on the table, but “it may come up in future discussions."

Still, there are numerous signs of movement in the Senate after semi-automatic rifles were used in recent shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., the most conservative Democrat in the Senate, came out for raising the age to 21 this week. Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, of Utah, said raising the age "makes a lot of sense." And Sen. Susan Collins, of Maine, said she's open to the idea.

“It’s certainly alarming that so many of the mass killers have been between age 18 and 21,” she said.

Some Republicans in conservative states are also facing calls to act.

"Wyoming is a very Second Amendment-supporting state, so I've heard many people calling in, saying, leave our gun rights in place. By the same token, I've heard a lot of calls, also from people who are saying, try to find something you can do to work on this," Sen. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming said.

But when asked if she would support raising the age to buy certain firearms, Lummis responded: "I would not support that."

Gotta say, raising the age from 18 to 21 is NOT the absolute worst compromise I've seen come from gun reform talk. Barring certain guns behind the same age restriction as tobacco and alcohol isn't the most retarded idea they've presented. Though I'd imagine that such a bill might require some tweaks involving military law too. Maybe. If they ever thought that far.

However, even if it somehow passes, we all know it won't really fix the actual issues. Because even if the government suits realized targeting legal gun ownership does nothing for the illegal guns on the streets (or the "ghost guns" they're so hyped on for headlines now), no matter the compromises made, it's never enough.

(And that's not even going in to the ever-retarded argument of "B-but teens shouldn't be able to own AK-47s!" as if the laws/restrictions to buy an actual, genuine AK-47 in the U.S. of A isn't already through the fucking roof in difficulty, if not outright impossible in some states. And pretty much any that ARE legally sold have been neutered to hell and back. But whatever. Reality rarely fuels the narrative.)

Interesting to see the Dems backing tougher laws when they‘re notorious for selectively enforcing the laws we already have, based on the race and/or political stance of the criminal.

Make no mistake, this is a dagger aimed at the heart of law-abiding white gun owners, not criminals.

How are they going to be able to enforce these
’Random’ spot checks to make sure your registered weapons are stored in accordance with legislation, meaning cops would be allowed access to your home to verify compliance at any time, and would also be performing ‘plain view’ searches at the same time.
Let a cop in to do the spot check and he sees an Evola book on your coffee table? Congrats, you just got added to a list of suspected white supremacists.

The fact that they had to come up with this kind of law to raise the age to be able to buy semiautomatic rifles to 21 makes it sound that they’re treating the adults like children, while not find out the sole cause of the problem.

>Can't be trusted with a gun
>Can be trusted with a ballot
>Can be trusted with car keys
>Can be trusted with Titty Skittles
Why, progressives? Just explain, WHY?
>can be trusted with having sex on camera for money
Your government will let you be a proxy prostitute well before it'll allow you to acquire an efficient means of self-defense.

Yeah, things are looking pretty grim for him over here. Our local radio shows openly shit-talk him. 90% of the callers I heard on the local radio want him gone and 90% of my friends & family also want him gone. Those that support him are actively booed at town halls and political conventions.

He isn't quite as hated as Liz Cheney but it's close. I'll certainly be doing my part to get rid of the dipshit I didn't even vote for him to begin with. The only reason he got elected in the first place was because he says he's Mormon.
I did a quick google and found this.
Romney’s overall approval rating among Utah voters mirrors that of Republicans and Democrats at 51%, about where it has hovered for most of his three years in office. Still, 42% of Utahns disapprove and 7% don’t know.

Also, the poll found 45% of Republicans disapprove of Romney’s job performance, compared to 37% of Democrats.

A year ago, nearly two-thirds of Utah Republicans disapproved of the job he is doing.

Republicans in Utah jumped all over Romney for voting not once but twice to convict former President Donald Trump — for abuse of power in 2020 and inciting an insurrection in 2021 — in Senate impeachment trials. They also ripped him for calling out Trump and other Republicans for perpetuating the “big lie” that the 2020 presidential was stolen.

Democrats, meantime, heaped praise on the senator for his impeachment votes and position on the election.

Although state delegates booed him at the Utah Republican Party convention last year, the catcalls have died down with time. A resolution at the convention to censure him failed.

That's bordering on "Apple says you can't repair this so fuck you."
Not cleaning a gun can also cause fun stuff like this.
Incomplete Discharge ‚ This is when a round is fired but gets stuck inside the gun barrel. This can be caused by damage to the inside of the barrel or by residue buildup from previous rounds. If you tried to fire another round in this scenario, it can cause the gun to explode. Failure to Eject ‚ When a cartridge is fired, it must then be extracted by the gun's mechanism and ejected. The problem here is if the gun is dirty, rusted, or corroded, it could fail to extract the used cartridge. A live round would then be forced into the base of the jammed cartridge, potentially causing the gun to explode.
At least a broken iPhone is unlikely to injure you.

Few things can make you understand/outright fear a Failure To Eject quite as deeply as a Desert Storm vet going on a spittin' tirade about mud, sand, and muddy sand. Even fewer things can inspire you to always make sure every single gun you own is clean and kept, even if your city has very little crime. Burglars and home-grown criminals aren't exactly obligated to take POWs.

As unlikely as any of these proposed gun bills are to pass, it's eye-opening to read them and realize just how little the officials actually know about guns; even just the basics.

It won't get past the senate most likely. If you can't own a gun till you are 21 then they should raise the age of military enlistment as well. No one can hold an assault rifle till they are 21 right? But I am sure that won't happen.

The age to own a gun in Germany under the Weimar government was 21 and the National Socialists lowered it to 18. You could own a gun at a younger age in Nazi Germany than you could in the US if these leftist faggots get their way.
That was brought up by Massie but Nadler the fat fuck says that's different because Israel needs bodies

Because, you poor excuse for a Crypt Keeper RPer, 18 IS LEGALLY AN ADULT!

EDIT: Fucking ninja'd...
When you're 18, you are legally an adult.

You also didn't mention what else they did:
  • Safe storage laws (your gun is now inaccessible when you have seconds to live)
  • Banning magazines above 15 rounds (which criminals will ignore, putting you at a disadvantage)
  • It's now illegal to field-strip and clean your gun without a manufacturer's license

Don't underestimate RINOs' willingness to sacrifice your rights in exchange for party invitations.

Leftists think that anything belong 21 is "literally a child". Yet they also approve of kids being "kinky".

Partially related, this is why I advised the few inexperienced-with-gun family members I have to either get a revolver or a Glock for their home/personal defense handguns. You have to really, really fuck up to get a revolver to misfire in a way that isn't a dud cartridge and even that is rare, and Glocks are notoriously good at withstanding the general neglect and abuse that comes with people not understanding firearms.

And Glocks are the absolute easiest guns on the planet to strip and maintain, and its almost impossible to fuck up the process. I think it'd actually take more effort to achieve the level of sheer laziness required to neglect it, than to just clean the damn thing.

Well a new update from the House Dems.

House Democrats ripped for tweet on banning semi-automatic rifles: 'Party against civil rights' (Archive)

The official Twitter account of House Democrats was pummeled by social media users after it called for action against all semi-automatic rifles.

"Semiautomatic rifles are weapons of war. Refusing to act and save lives in this moment is an immoral abandonment of your constitutional duty," House Democrats tweeted on Wednesday.

That same day House lawmakers voted on party lines to pass new gun control legislation, although as written it has little chance of clearing the Senate. The bill would prohibit the sale of ammunition magazines with a capacity of more than 15 rounds. It would also include incentives to increase safe gun storage devices and craft new criminal penalties if a gun is not properly stored and then acquired by a minor with the intent to inflict harm.

Semi-automatic rifles are self-loading rifles that fire one round per pull of the trigger.

The vote came after a House committee listened to testimony from recent shooting victims and their families. The legislation was subsequently praised by the White House.

But the tweet from House Democrats signaled further action that was not included in the legislation. Many prominent conservative Twitter accounts were alarmed at the post.

"The Second Amendment specifically protects the right of the people to possess weapons of war. That’s literally why it exists," Justin Amash, a libertarian former member of Congress, tweeted.

Media strategist and TownHall writer Gabriella Hoffman also chimed in, blasting House Democrats for conflating semi-automatic rifles with actual "weapons of war."

Senior TownHall columnist Kurt Schlichter was a bit more blunt than his colleague. "Kiss my a—you communist pieces of s---,’ he wrote.

Former U.S. Army Special Forces Jim Hanson added that Democrats are becoming "ever more tyrannical," and were a reason that the Second Amendment exists in the first place.

"Believe them when they admit it out loud," Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy tweeted.

Rep. Matt Schaefer, R-Texas, also weighed in on the tweet.

Plenty of other prominent Twitter users also offered their reactions.

I wince every time I see someone pop the cylinder, give it a good spin, then snap it back in, still spinning, with a flick of the wrist.

Your daily reminder that the vast majority of firearms murders are committed with pistols, but the fucktarded Dems aren’t raising a stink about those.
