Favorite “Bad Guys” in Fiction - What’s your favorite enemy?

Personally, my favorite enemy is the Combine from the game Half-Life 2. I like the idea of an extra dimensional empire just absolutely destroying humanity in seven hours and enslaving them and leaving a self-governing garrison on Earth to siphon its resources. Literally the only reason why humanity even still exists as slaves rather then just bioengineered weapons is because the Combine, despite their cross-dimensional dominance, lack localized-teleportation technology. The appointed Administrator of Earth, Doctor Wallace Breen, managed to convince the Combine that they are capable of developing localized-teleportation technology for them if only they have time to gather people to do so (Unfortunately, most of the scientists who have the skills to develop teleportation technology work for the underground human resistance and are in hiding). Their military consist of bioengineered synthetic war-machines based off conquered species, with humans in its military being cybernetically augmented as a sort of test bed. They have a police force composed of Combine loyalists or conscripts who seek better meal rations, quality of living, higher social status, or even possible rewards such as reproduction simulations.

Of things I've seen recently, I really love the character of Silco from the Arcane series.
The man embodies how you can be an attentive, loving father figure, but still not a good parent. And the target of his affection and protection ultimately ends him because of the neuroses he unintentionally enabled and cultivated.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Fire Nation yet. As far as kid's shows go they were pretty ruthless, especially Azula. But we all know who the real unbeaten mastermind of fiction is.

You can talk about how bashit Metal Gear Solid is all day, but you can't deny its villains- Ocelot, Liquid, the Patriots- are interesting villains and Anti-Villains.

Sauron in The Lord of The Rings books because he casts such a long shadow over the whole story. It's made crystal clear that all of Middle Earth is doomed is he takes back the One Ring. We also see how the power of the One Ring corrupts people, like Boromir and Gollum. The burden of carrying the One Ring into Mount Doom takes such a tremendous toll on Frodo that he never fully recovers from it. You never actually see Sauron on the page in the books, but he has such an immense presence in the whole narrative through the One Ring and his lieutenants. He makes the triumph of the heros that much greater, because he made them have to give such a titanic effort to defeat him.

I remmber for Azula's defeat in the finale. She loses her God damn mind after being defeated. Never dawn on me how mess up that was for a kids show.

Tbf for Silco, Jinx was fucked the moment she killed her adoptive family, at least he gave her some justification and a goal to work towards. Not to mention he'd probably preferred to die than become a hypocrite or lose Jinx.

Anyways I try to think of factions rather than good villains (since that was done to death). I'd go with the Calamity Ravens from Valkyria Chronicles 3. Basically a group of Jews fighting for Tzarist Russia under the promise they'd get their own country if they do all the dirty work. Personal bias notwithstanding, they strike a good balance of being competent but not annoyingly able to see the future. They are also (like the protagonists) hated by the main army, so it's fun to see their politicking and drive.
How the fuck the best title in the series never came out in the west?

I wanna also go with some of the enemies in SoulsBorne series, but that's mainly great design.
