US To Bring Back Pirates To Seize Russian Yachts - Look at me, I'm the Pirate now

Via SovereignMan.com,

Centuries ago, whenever Kings and Queens wanted to quietly wage an unofficial war against their enemies, they issued something called a “Letter of Marque” to private sailors known as Privateers.

The Letter would legally authorize these Privateers (which was just a polite way of saying ‘Pirate’) to seize other kingdom’s ships and cargo while at sea.

It was essentially government-sanctioned theft.

Well, the United States Congress is bringing back this practice.

A recent bill that was introduced would “authorize the President of the United States to issue letters of marque and reprisal for the purpose of seizing the assets of certain Russian citizens.”

So, if the bill passes, children can once again legitimately dream of becoming a pirate when they grow up.

The last time the US authorized privateers was during the War of 1812.

I could be entirely wrong, but I think I heard that the US never originally had a Navy per se because they couldn't afford it and barely wanted it until it got its first taste of international control with the Barbary Pirates.
It was the U.S. govt couldn't afford it and when it could it, U.S. Congress were penny pinching misers who rather paid tribute to the Barbary States. But when Barbary Statss kept upping tribute amount, still pirating U.S. shipping and enslaving Americans finally forced the U.S. Govt to fund a permanent U.S. Navy. As funding the U.S. Navy was now the cheaper option.

So it will be BLM and Antifa on the open seas. The attack on a Russian ship will be an act of war. And US ships will be attacked.
Bring in the navy use fire power on them and maybe nuke torpedos
forgot about that one

I wonder how Ron Paul is taking his beloved letters of Marque and Reprisal being used to warmonger even more

The US did have an extremely small navy from 1784-1801

Since the US had a fairly big fleet of private ships used in trade, many of them easily convertible into warships, it thought it didn't really need to spend money on a regular navy. If war were declared the US naval strategy was single ships or very small groups going commerce raiding and the main effort was preventing blockades close to home. A force that could operate across oceans for months or years wasn't US strategy so it didn't try to make one. Squabbling with France and the Barbary pirates being typical Muslims at the very end of the 1700s showed you do need a regular navy. So the US built one. A small one. Except at the end of the Civil War, until the 1890s the US navy was never anywhere close to a match for the European powers

Lol not saying this is a bad idea, but historically when one country has done this, the other country has done the same thing in return.
