Opinion Ukraine War Fever Could Kill GOP Midterm Chances

How does any rational or caring human being watch us lose a 20-year war against cave-dwelling barbarians, and not just lose that war, but lose it in the most humiliating fashion imaginable, and less than a year later already have a war-boner for Ukraine?

I’m convinced the unholy alliance between Neocons, the corporate media, and the Democrat party is the Seventh Seal.

For a moment, let’s forget about the fact that America is incapable of liberating anyone; let’s ignore that our definition of “liberating” is to spend $4 trillion killing hundreds of thousands of innocents and then abandoning them to the enemy. Instead, how about these apples: 1) Putin is not a cave-dwelling barbarian, and 2) Putin has nuclear weapons.

Well, those apples have been met with what is, without question, the single-most irresponsible thing a public official has uttered in my lifetime…

And this is a close second…

But they’re not alone. We have high-profile, pro-Trump folks saying the same.

And this is how we blow 2022.

Good heavens, a sitting United States senator is publicly calling for the assassination of the leader of a country that has thousands of nukes. But-but-but we have a missile defense system, those stricken with war fever tell me. Yeah, we do, and that defense system is built by the same government that built the Obamacare website and forgot to order coronavirus tests and made this guy a lieutenant colonel and hasn’t won a war in 75 years.

You might say, Didn’t we win Gulf War I? Maybe technically, but then George H.W. Bush told the Kurds to rise up against Saddam Hussein and didn’t back them. So maybe ask the Kurds if we won that war. Oh, you can’t; they’re liberated dead.

Dear Lindsey: Forget about the nukes. What about the power vacuum? Have you thought about the power vacuum if Russia finds its Brutus? You see, I remember the last power vacuum America had a hand in creating in a little place called Libya, and I also remember that the results were beyond devastating. The rise of ISIS was the least of it. First off, the Bush 43 administration promised Libyan President Muammar Qaddafi that we would not overthrow him if he gave up his nukes. Then Barry and Hillary helped overthrow him, so Good job, America. But Libya was the cork that kept non-European migrants and refugees out of Europe. The fall of Qaddafi flooded Europe with refugees, and now, Europe is a generation or two away from being conquered within without anyone firing a shot.

As far as Kinzinger, a no-fly zone is an act of actual war — not a cold war of sanctions and weapons shipments — but a hot war where America shoots down Russian jets. A no-fly zone means America starts/launches/initiates a hot war against a country with thousands of nukes.

Politically, though, good heavens!

The GOP is on the cusp of not just a red wave, but a generational political realignment, and this is when we start flirting with the 100 percent failure rate of neoconism?

When the Biden White House sounds more sensible than some in our party and some of our most popular talking heads… That’s scary.

We can all see it… The most dangerous thing imaginable is already here… A moral panic where everyone tries to prove their anti-Putin purity through more and more extremism until America is once again killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in a war we’re eventually going to lose anyway. And it’s all being ginned up by a D.C. War Machine that can never get rich enough and a corporate media that put ratings above human life.

We cannot fall for this.

I hope and pray Putin is humiliated in Ukraine. Nothing would make me happier. And I sympathize entirely with Ukraine doing everything in its power, including lying, to get some outside help and save itself from annihilation. But that doesn’t blind me to the fact that 1) Putin has nukes and 2) now that the U.S. military is fully-Vindman’d, we don’t win wars.

So let me say this to the GOP… It’s a trap, dummies! It’s a neocon/MSM/Democrat trap built by people who could not care less about Ukraine. To them, this war is just a convenient way to move their hate/blacklisting/virtue-signaling supremacism to another cause now that the COVID moral panic has run its course.

Usually, I only speak for myself, but I think I speak for many when I say this to the GOP: Never again, fellas. I was a grown man at the time and take full responsibility, but that doesn’t alter the fact that even though Iraq did not attack us and there were no WMDs, I — much to my eternal embarrassment — stridently defended and supported that stupid goddamned war because I believed you.

Gas prices, inflation, Biden’s oatmeal brain, Critical Race Theory, teaching gay porn in schools, the invasion over our southern border, and all the rest are vitally important, but not as important as staying out of another stupid goddamned war we cannot win.

Putin may very well push things to where we have no choice, and then, fine… We have no choice. We’re still going to lose, but I get that.

Until that point, and we’re a long way from that point, God bless and keep Ukraine, but don’t even think about it.

No, just, nooooo little coping democrat. Gas is $4 a gallon everywhere and will be $8 by the end of the month, grocery store deliveries are rotating which store gets which product per shipment, and those are slowing down. Bidenflation is steadily growing, and the man has no intention of sending more than stingers and javelins into Ukraine, as long as Putin promises to shell the burisma servers with all that incriminating evidence on it. And this is only the start of year 2 for brandon.
That'll only work in the GOP's favor if they stop agitating for conflict with Russia.

It's pretty ridiculous how stupid some of these people are. Not six years ago were they eating Hillary's lunch because she proposed establishing a no-fly zone in Syria even though she was promptly told that this would certainly start a war with Russia, but here we are, and we got Adam Kinzinger suggesting we do that very thing in the Ukraine.

These people want to start a nuclear conflagration... over the Ukraine.

Why?

I'm almost completely blackpilled at this point. I entirely believe the Dems will use this as a springboard to assist massive, massive cheating, and come midterms the Red Wave will be little more than a purple (in other words, neocon) trickle.
The public is slowing catching on to the cheating. There's only so many times before the levee breaks. Then the public will want blood since they live in a supposed republic / democracy but their vote means diddly shit. I know it didn't before the cheating. But at least there was an illusion it did count.

The climate cult.

This is one of those moments where the beltway is so disconnected from the rest of the country.

Most people don’t give enough of a shit about Russia and Ukraine to base their votes off of it. Those are ultimately luxury beliefs that if everything is going ok domestically, you might get more attention.

I think it’ll be hard to tell how the midterms will turn out. The type of issues that plague the US generally favor Democrats but Democrats have gone all in on neoliberalism. The only solution is who is perceived as the most populist but the moment that happens, suburban burgers will scream bloody murder about MUH 401k and vote for establishment Democrats and Republicans.

A lot of shit is likely to tear at the seams this year. I don’t think anyone can make an educated guess but the deciding factor sure as shit isn’t going to be Ukraine.

If gas prices continue rising throughout the year, Americans aren't going to care about any other issue besides making the pain stop. That's not to say that the Dems can't try and turn that pain into anger at Russia, but the GOP can much more easily direct it at them (if, you know, they were politically competent). Of course that won't stop Republicans themselves for calling for war, but both parties are going to be forced to do something about the domestic chaos that is about to ensue.
The Biden administration is past the point where they can hope for gas prices to come back down to anything that isn't hurting people badly. And they're past the point where they can try to hide that. But what they can do is do 24/7 messaging on all channels claiming that the reason for that is Russia, Russia, Russia.

Article is not wrong. Article is voicing what I've been afraid of recently, too. Do not forget that the American public were against WWI as well. But start a fight and over time, the voices that were against getting involved are silenced. This is a big part of Zelensky's strategy in the Ukraine - there are lots (and lots) of Ukranians who despise their own government with good reason. But the longer the conflict can be dragged on the more such people will be pushed into rallying behind the Ukranian authorities. Especially when "saboteurs" are being tied to lampposts and beaten.

lol just going to do a Tulsi Gabbard and Adolf Hitler write in so at least the Jew who's going to toss my ballot out anyway gets their day ruined.
I would unironically vote the Hell out a combined Tulsi/Trump ticket.

Since the 2008 Financial crash, they've been saying a massive war is the only option for the US economy.

The whole thing is fucked. I have no clue, except I can firmly see there is propaganda, bullshit and dishonest discussion about the war. That narrative is on purpose. To what ends, I don't know. It just seems like all the ground work to get involved in it.

I think the same failed policy of, "we can push Russia, they won't invade Ukraine." Will turn into, "We can start a hot war, they won't launch nukes."

I unironically believe nuclear strikes by Russia are a possibility. Globalist encroachment is an existential threat to Russia. If it wasn't perceived by Russia as such they wouldn't be trying to take Kiev. Russia's actions ONLY make sense if they believe they are under an existential threat. (And I agree with them, fwiw).

And therefore it logically follows that if Russia is acting under the assumption they are under an existential threat, then nukes are on the table.

This is actually very true. I hate Biden but the warmongering from neocons is making me very nervous. I'll vote for Trump and maybe some other populists and third position types but not Republicans.
So now we've reached full circle between a cultural war and an actual war? Why can't we have competent people in charge?

What did we do to deserve this?

I do not care, but this is dumb.
War is popular, especially for people who have no idea what it means or what a Ukraine even is.
Polls have found that a majority of people want more war. Being pro-war will not really matter all that much.
The economy will be the killer. Especially with regard to prices of gasoline. That is where you win. Aint no one want expensive gas.

I look at the propaganda and go, "what are you trying to tell me."

To me, it seems clear the groundwork is being laid for there to be a nuclear incident in Ukraine to force NATO intervention. Like a reactor blowing up or a dirty bomb. Or even something really small that will be exploited as bigger than it is. Only one side has the motivation to do this, but regardless it'll be blamed on Putin. Even if the evidence is clear they didn't do it, it'll default onto, "but if not for the war, so, therefore, Putin's fault."

I don't think this is a propaganda push by the west but comes from relentlessly pushing Ukraine propaganda. With western propaganda working towards justifying getting involved to a further extent than I think our politicians want. As they try desperately to toe the line of exploiting it to booster their unpopularity. While trying not to go over the line of, "well if it's so bad, do something." Which then makes it work against them.

Midterms are 7 months away. A lot can change. This so called war could fizzle out before the summer arrives and then what?

I also agree with the above posted talking about the shipping crisis, gas prices rising, and inflation. Folks are not gonna care about some war across the globe when their friends and family are starving / failing to make ends meat.
Afghanistan was forgotten by Nov last year and I'm noticing Ukraine slipping from the public conscious already. Unless there's some significant happening it will be completely forgotten by summer.

Gas prices on the other hand, those will be staring us in the face for months to come.

Adam Kinzinger is persona non grata in the Republican party. Hes not even running for reelection. Lindsey Graham is a buffoon who is out of touch with the roots of the party. They need to find some better examples is they want us to hate Republicans.
