It's okay, you guys, there's no agenda-pushing to be seen here!

Jesus fucking Christ, how can we actually have a discussion on what needs to be done when we have screaming headlines that say things like "BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS," "TRAMPLING ON THEOR GRAVES," "GUTLESS COWARDS," and "THE NRA'S SICK JIHAD"?

Fuck sensationalism and fuck what "journalism" has devolved into.

I agree completely but the other side of the coin is just as bad with the Ted Nugents and Alex Jones's screaming about how Obama is a foreign born muslim sleeper agent who wants to disarm the US and stick us all in FEMA camps for ...reasons.

I disagree. The difference is Alex Jones and Ted Nugent are retards screaming into the void. The journalists (and I use this term very lightly) are putting other people's lives at risk by playing apologist for radical Islam and spreading disingenuous propaganda.

The only reason we know who Nugent and Jones are is because they have a significant amount of followers. Hell, didn't Donald Trump show up on the Alex Jones show recently? They're out of their goddamn minds, sure. But lets not kid ourselves here by pretending people aren't paying attention to their stuff. And that makes them just as, if not, damn near close to as dangerous as Jihadists.

When Alex Jones and Glenn Beck fans start murdering thousands of people worldwide per month in sustained terror attacks then sure we can draw a parallel. But no matter how much you personally dislike Republicans it's really fucking intellectually dishonest to claim they're as dangerous as ISIS.

They're definitely not screaming into the void. Anyway my point was that their BS is just as one-sided and ridiculous as what was posted.

I don't hate republicans. At least not exclusively. But the fact is more Americans have died from right-wing extremism since 9/11 than have died from Islamic extremism. I haven't checked that fact Post-San Bernadino, but it's probably still accurate. They're not killing people worldwide en masse, of course, but the extremists are killing Americans at a rate we really can't ignore.

Source please. Around here we don't make claims without backing them up. And peer reviewed or government agency, no Mother Jones or Gawker.

On that note, these are the official guidelines listed in the Society of Professional Journalists:

I do believe it's really important to be mindful of Muslims when writing reports in order to prevent spreading misinformation, but this seems kind of overboard. The whole "jihad" point is misleading, too; the word has different meanings and there is no official consensus as to which one is the "most" correct. From Wikipedia:

Muslims and scholars do not all agree on its definition. Many observers—both Muslim [6] and non-Muslim [7]—as well as the Dictionary of Islam, [3] talk of jihad having two meanings: an inner spiritual struggle (the "greater jihad"), and an outer physical struggle against the enemies of Islam (the "lesser jihad")[3][8] which may take a violent or non-violent form.[1][9] Jihad is often translated as "Holy War",[10][11][12] although this term is controversial.[13][14] According to orientalist Bernard Lewis, "the overwhelming majority of classical theologians, jurists", and specialists in the hadith "understood the obligation of jihad in a military sense."[15] Javed Ahmad Ghamidi states that there is consensus among Islamic scholars that the concept of jihad will always include armed struggle against wrong doers.

But the point I think is really dumb is the whole "don't use the phrases 'Islamic terrorist' or 'Muslim extremist'" thing. That's exactly what they are. What else are we supposed to call them? We don't have problems using terms like "Christian/Jewish/Hindu/far-right/far-left extremists," why should Muslim extremists be any different?

They're going pretty much toe-to-toe and the muslim population in the United States is an incredibly small percentage of the U.S population while accounting for almost 50% of extremist attack deaths in the U.S in 2002-2015 so yeah. That's not to say that right-wing militia's aren't scary or that things like bomb attacks on Planned Parenthood aren't terrorist attacks, but I think it's safe to say that islamic extremist attacks are a much more potent threat both globally and in the U.S than any other singular threat.

Yeah I don't see a stack of Alex Jones newsletters in the gas station.

Sarcasm noted. However in order to validate your point please point me to a specific incident of violence in which multiple people were killed and the perpetrator specifically cited Alex Jones as the inspiration for the attack.

You can't. Because unlike radical Islam there are none.

Edit: I know some speds are going to accuse me of being a bigot so I'd like to reiterate that I have zero animosity towards the Muslim faith. I simply think that sticking our heads in the ground and ignoring mass atrocities committed in the name of Islam is immoral and immensely insensitive to the victims and their families.

We don't have such problems because the number of times we have to refer to "Hindu terrorists" are just not that common.

There's one religion in the world that produces a constant stream of religiously-motivated terrorism and it's Islam.

The troublesome part for me with terrorism, and the gun control issue, is just how the fuck do you really fix those issues?

How do you get religious fanatics to stop doing the shit they do? Use harsh language, give them money, nuke Israel?

As for the gun issue, again how can you possibly end the rampant violence with guns when they are so prevalent in society? As an example, see this AZ politician's family xmas card:
Fiore-guns.jpg

http://mashable.com/2015/12/04/christmas-guns-michele-fiore/
I am in Canada, and if one of our politicians sent a family xmas card like that, they'd be ostracized, skewered and thrown out of office. I mean even the little kid has one. I was looking to see if the 3 smaller kids had one somewhere on them. I have no problem with the card, I hate xmas anyway.

I use it to illustrate that if a politician can send out a card like that, then how can gun control, or whatever they eventually try to do, work?

Someone told me awhile back that the Dept of Homeland Security has stockpiled over 3 million rounds of ammunition. I never looked into it to see if it is true. But sounds like they are prepared for war. On US soil.

Again, being in Canada, while I know about the gun debate a bit, not having the right to bear arms under a Constitution, I don't know the feeling if suddenly the gov't did something to violate or rescind that right.

Either via terrorism or mass shootings the carnage inflicted and the lives lost in both cases can never be undone.

That's why it is so important that we can have a dialogue about these issues and what needs to be done. Plugging our ears and going NOT A REAL MUSLIM, WORKPLACE VIOLENCE doesnt solve anything, and Obama is just feeding into the media's sensationalist nonsense with his horrendous addresses. This is a serious issue and it needs to be treated like one, instead of this tumblr-tier walking on eggshills shit over offending muslims.

Well yes, the gun debate can obviously be worked out cause you have rational people for the most part on both sides.

But how do you stop terrorism? Are we going to give ISIS a seat in the UN? No, that wouldn't be too cool. Are we going to nuke them into oblivion? No, they don't all hang in one place, plus new ones keep coming all the time. So really, short of nuking Israel, or Earth getting nuked by a comet, what will stop terrorism? And tbh, would even those things stop it? LOL

Not snarking at you whatsoever, but I want someone to post something that will make me say, yeah, that will end terrorism forever!
