I know you didn’t post that stuff in good faith, and were hoping that your poster would “gotcha” us into a Wojak-tier sobbing rage. But I’ll take your bait.

I want to ask a genuine question: would you be willing to take your poster to a doctor, research scientist, epidemiologist, etc and genuinely ask them these questions? It’s one thing to play games with randos on the internet, but are you willing to hear answers to these questions from educated and qualified minds on the subject? Further to this, if their answers are contrary to your pre-existing notions — and they can back them up with evidence — would you be willing and able to change your mind?

I got a bit of perspective on this, as I've also been pretty wary of medicine independent of coof. I've had some seriously negative experiences (nearly died once due to incompetence and pretty sure I had a couple try to con me into surgeries I didn't need) with doctors and have reached a point where I only go as an absolute last resort.

If you get sick enough sometimes you just have to gamble that you'll get a good doc, even if you think 99% of them (not my number just an example) are corrupt. It's not that people are lying or don't believe what their saying, but when you're desperate you just have to try everything. Can't speak for his parents obviously, but that's been my experience.

covid? every ER and ICU doctor and nurse in the world is trying their best right now. It's a different beast. you might not trust a doctor to care enough to do a deep diagnosis, but you trust one to set your broken arm. same thing here

So my sister caught omicron or at least its the most likely, she is doing fine she is tired and watching a lot of tv in bed and her daughter is staying at moms. She is fully vaccinated. Hopefully this is the herd immunity variant and it doesn't mutate further. Looks like most governments are gonna shift from the containment strategy to the rapid spread strategy and hope hospitals can tank the load for another month or two. It is clear this variant is not realistically containable but is at least milder so there is a glimmer of hope we can skirt this although its probably just as likely to mutate again placing us into an endemic situation.

it will mutate further. "let it spread" means we are allowing further mutations.

it is definitely mild among the vaccinated. if you aren't a deathfat, don't have blood or heart disorders or cancer of some kind, and you're boosted, this isn't going to kill you. you likely won't need the hospital.

it sucks for people with cancer and all that, there's not a lot we can do to protect them. the more unvaccinated people die of it though, the closer we get to shielding them from it.

with omicron the closest comparison in spread is measles. we are usually at herd immunity there, which means high vaccination levels.


being infected by a virus that can infect you multiple times does nothing for herd immunity.

I don't really care if people get their shots at this point, I'm getting paid well to clean up the mess. I feel bad for the nurses though.

The fact that it is a variant of a SARS is really interesting because certain animals in the wild that are really susceptible to SARS are also huge incubators of COVID. In particular the White Tailed deer population is one that is heavily effected. They don't exhibit symptoms like humans do but tests run on road kill and live specimens show that it's spread throughout the population and doesn't go away quickly.

On the topic of @Butcher Pete and his funny little poster...

I can sympathize that change is difficult and life pretty much shifted radically in a different direction, but when this started having multiple methods of prevention for the sake of redundancy is the only way to stop it. All of these things can help to stop the spread as much as possible, but it will still spread because that's how a virus works. You can't just eradicate every little bit of it, but you can reduce it to the point where it isn't an issue. We never let that happen. I still don't understand why people don't understand the concept of boosters since there are numerous vaccines where you already take a booster, and the things like the flu have a yearly shot. Look at any vaccine and you will likely find a liability clause since it's impossible to know what sort of reaction someone will have to something. Super spreaders doesn't mean you just are that much more likely to spread COVID. It means that due to your vaccination your viral load looks different, and you might be asymptomatic because that was one of the outcomes of the vaccine. A lot of people were not knocked out by the virus because of their vaccination and then they didn't even realize they were spreading it. Because they weren't social distancing or masking since they thought the vaccine was one hundred percent foolproof they were more likely to spread it. Again it comes back to redundancy and having a back up in case the other steps fail.

It's why they put run offs for trucks on the highway when their brakes fail. Should we just not have brakes since they can fail?

Why would you publicly notify everyone you're so upset you've had to ignore people because you disagree in the Wu Flu?

You need to take a break from the internet, my dude. Self isolate away from the computer for 14 days. Take a LFT at day 10, if you can read a Facebook post about someone being happy they got the booster without totally sperging out, you can end the isolation early.

The boosters definitely help with the severity of it if you're unlucky enough to get it.

Case in point, very recently when my girl, her parents, and myself all got covid at the same time, her dad was the only one of us that had the booster already (he got it as soon as they were available - he's a bit of a hypochrondiac)

Anyway, his case was very mild. We had to get it from the same source, since we were together that weekend we all caught it, but me, her and her mom felt really sick for about two days. It was just like the flu.

Her dad, on the other hand, just had a low fever and a cough.

I was gonna get the booster anyway, but I wasn't in a big rush to go out and get it because this entire time I've been fine.

I've been around people who were infected a few times and haven't caught anything so what's the rush?

But now, after seeing her dad breeze through it while we were miserable for two days, I'm going to get that damn booster shot.
