That's not really accurate. The areas that are suffering, even post vaccine, are the same areas that were suffering before: large, heavily populated, crowded areas.
Rural areas, which are not always but are typically red, are largely faring the same as they were before.
The red states that do have a lot of deaths (but not nessacerily a lot of spread and new cases) are also the blackest regions in the country, and we know that for the most part, blacks aren't getting vaccinated in large enough numbers to make a real difference.
There's also the issue, as many have already pointed out, the fact that many of those deaths are from individuals who have lived very unhealthy lives. This is fitting, as this is mostly happening in places where the population is poor, uneducated, overweight, unhealthy, and largely black (though Latinos and whites are also mixed in albeit in smaller numbers.)
A state like Maine however, has been making out extremely well since the release of the vaccine, as most of the population there has partaken in the process of getting their Covid vaccinations.
And when we look at some of the other qualities of a place like Maine, we see why this is the case: extremely rural, highly educated population, above average wealth, and most importantly - a nearly 100% white population.
It's always going to be a disadvantage to live in an urban area as far as this virus goes, at least in America.
We aren't Singapore, or China, where they can actually force people to get vaccinated or else.
Plus, their populations are already extremely conformist so when the their governments announce that you must get vaccinated, the people are gonna go out and get vaccinated, wear their masks, stand apart whenever possible, etc.
That's why they can curtail the spread of Covid in urban areas and we can't: authoritarianism and an extremely malleable population makes that possible.
Even when we do vaccine mandates (I'm not comparing mandates where you need to show proof of vaccination to dine in restaurants or work out in public gyms to the authoritarian measures used in places like China btw) they help but it's not going to eliminate the spread in extremely crowded areas.
The homeless are everywhere in those big cities. How many insane, rambling, possibly schizophrenic homeless are gonna go get jabbed and then return in a month and get jabbed again?
Then there's the people who are just stubborn and won't get it no matter what obstacles you use to close off leisure activities.
Unless it's law where you have to do it, there's going to be people who refuse. That's just the way people are.
One discredited doctor makes a link between autism and childhood vaccinations years ago, and we get a whole generation of rich hippy parents in California sending their kids to school without the vaccinations that kids have been getting forever. You had breakouts in these schools of illnesses that we wiped out decades ago. Stuff that you might only see in the third world but this was in California, in some of the wealthiest schools in the country.
People are fucking nutty. And when we have freedoms that protect individuals right to be assholes, that's what you get.
