No. The best way to deal with them is to tell them that as GM you are the FINAL arbiter of the rules. Their interpretations don't matter. Only yours and if they don't like that they can leave. They removed that rule from editions after 2e because of trying to accomodate autists like Fatty McKike. But it's still there in most OSR stuff like B/X clones and 1E.
